On a mission to cure childhood leukemia
Please meet Dr Andrew Place, MD, PhD, a pediatric oncologist and researcher at the Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center and a 6-year Pan-Mass Challenge rider with Team Path to the Cure!
At the Center, Andy and his team treat children with high-risk leukemias – patients with leukemia that has responded poorly to front-line treatment or whose disease has returned after treatment.
One of the most important elements of Andy’s work is setting up and running clinical trials aimed to develop new cancer therapies – in many times administering promising therapies to children for the first time. Results from these early trials are a critical step in developing lifesaving therapies that can improve outcomes in pediatric patients worldwide.
Team Path to the Cure’s goal for 2021 is to raise $100,000. These funds will help Andy and his team set up and launch his latest trial at 4 additional pediatric cancer centers across the country. Collaborating with these centers brings these trials closer to the children who need them and also accelerates a trial’s progress. These funds support the personnel costs associated with the set-up and administration of the trials and also aids in the recruitment of patients. Being able to nimbly set up trial sites is critical to delivering treatments to those who can benefit from them the most.
Your support of Team Path to the is vital this effort and we thank you for your donations.
