Thanks for logging in and visiting “Team Lexies” page! The members of Team Lexie are proud to be partnered with the PMC Pedal Partner program, riding in honor of 25 year old Lexie Williams.
Lexie was originally diagnosed with a brain tumor after spending the weekend at Children's Hospital Boston when she had three seizures in two days at 3 and 1/2 months old. She had brain surgery at 4 months and was then diagnosed with a front left temporal lobe astrocytoma. Her remaining tumor was stable for four years after the surgery, but showed progression at age 5, followed by a second surgery and her first chemotherapy protocol. After the chemo, she was stable again for a period of 6 to 9 months. Unfortunately the tumor continued to show progression, and at age 9, she finished her second chemo protocol. She has little to no peripheral vision and partial third nerve palsy in her left eye, requiring eye surgery to straighten the eye.
As her tumor has progressed, it has been classified as a grade II hypothalamic optic pathway tumor. Her neurosurgeon feels it is currently inoperable. Lexie is now 25, a college graduate, a great friend, loves art and photography, and works hard to raise awareness for Brain Tumor Research.
Since her tumor blew up in 2018, morphing into a high grade tumor, involving two major brain surgeries, a brain bleed, full brain radiation, she has struggled with memory and speech. But she tries her best every day, and is determined to get back to her former self.
She is good friends with Dr. Charles Stiles (Chuck), who is the Co-Chair of Cancer Biology at Dana Farber, and heads up the low-grade astrocytoma research program which studies her tumor type directly. When Lexie first met Chuck, she asked him to find a little white pill which wouldn't make your hair fall out, and wouldn't make you throw up, but would stop your tumor from growing. He told her that was exactly what he was trying to do! As a result of that initial research, many of Lexie's friends are on pathway inhibitors like RAD001!!!! Lexie has a great big sister Emily who is 27. Emily is a resident at NYU in New York City, beginning her medical career in pediatrics.
100% of your donations will go directly to fund Low-grade astrocytoma research at Dana Farber! We greatly appreciate ANY donation you can spare to this necessary cause. With your help, we will find a CURE !!!! Thank-you! - Team Lexie
