In 2012 my wife Carlie was diagnosed with cancer. Admittedly it came as a shock, I mean this was not something we planned for. We had two boys under the age of 7, we were settling into a routine of living in the burbs, saving for college, planning for the future in some many ways. Now this. OK, so we had to shift gears and change our priorities, we got this. Our motto became this is just a speed bump. What gave us confidence was that we had Dana Farber in our backyard, and with their proven track record and groundbreaking achievements, we quickly realized just how lucky we were. This realization hit home for us when we were in the waiting room post surgery. We overheard a couple sitting across from us, who were from N Dakota. They were there to receive treatment, and we caught just a small snipit of there discussion. They were talking hitting the grocery store on their way back to the Holiday Inn in Framingham, where they planned to rest for 2 days before flying back home. I often think of that couple, hoping that they had the same outcome we had, and for making us feel so fortunate for having the very best health care, and cancer center, right here in Boston.
For years I've supported Dana Farber in various ways. Through direct donations, participating in Swim Across America events, fundraising events, silent auctions, etc. But this year I'm thrilled to participate in a New England institution: the Pan-Mass Challenge.
Since its founding in 1980, PMC riders like me have raised more than $1 billion for lifesaving cancer research, treatment and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the country's top cancer care hospitals. My PMC is making a difference in the lives of patients at Dana-Farber and around the world. The funds I raise support the innovative work of doctors, nurses, and scientists in their search for cures for cancers and related diseases.
100 percent of every dollar I raise goes directly to Dana-Farber, meaning that your donation has a real impact! Please consider donating to the PMC and supporting Dana Farber, thank you.
