Looking forward to my fourth Pan-Mass Challenge (https://www.pmc.org/) in a week and I will again be riding 162 miles (~260km for the Saffas out there) from Wellesley to Provincetown on August 2nd and 3rd. For those of you abroad or not familiar, the PMC's mission is to raise funds for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and 100% of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to Dana-Farber. PMC raises more money for charity than any other single event in the US and last year surpassed $1billion raised since 1980. This success over the years is the result of a lot of people riding for, and caring about, a cure for cancer.

This past year has been a rough one on the cancer front, with more close friends and family being impacted by this terrible disease so despite the preparation and training being less than ideal with injuries, travel and all sorts of other pathetic excuses on my side, the motivation to ride and raise dollars could not be higher!

I ride again this year for my Dad and my late father-in-law Jay Kriegel. Jay unfortunately passed from skin cancer in late 2019 and is missed dearly. My old man (now also fondly know as ‘die buffel’ or ‘the buffalo’ at the Nelspruit chemo clinic!) continues his battle with cancer and is unfortunately back in the trenches but doing well considering the circumstance. Every mile for you this year Dad!

I also ride this year specifically for my friend and former BlueWave colleague Chris Gosline. Chris unfortunately passed away earlier this year at the age of 47 which is still hard to believe. Couldn’t say it better than his friends at Syso: ‘He was a man of integrity and humility, with a magnanimous and adventurous soul, he is deeply missed’ and you can read more about his remarkable story here in the Boston Globe. He was an avid boater - see below - and just the kind of guy you wanted in the foxhole with you. Miss you Chris!

I also ride for our very close family friend Sharon Smithyman who passed after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Shaza was a remarkable character who is sorely missed by my folks and many others. I also ride for my other close friends and family: Tess, Gray, Ian, Liz, Chris, Andrew, Ken, Lisa, Amanda and many others - all of whom either are or have been tackling this terrible disease in one way or another. You are all also why I ride!

To all on this email - you have been so generous over the last three years and in total we have collectively raised just under $80k for Dana-Farber - thank you! This year I have made a personal commitment to raise another $25,000 and hope that I can count on you to help me achieve this significant goal in the short week that I have left before race day. I will again also be matching $0.50 on every dollar up to the first $10k.
