TEAM EFFIE is rides in memory of Effie Goldstein, a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, who succumbed to Pancreatic Cancer in November, 2008 after a 15-month battle. Effie gave back to others every single day of her life, and this is our opportunity to honor Effie and help others in need. In addition to the riders, we have over 20 volunteers, made up of family members and friends, who continue to volunteer in honor of Effie.
Our goal is to raise $157,000, to be directed to gastrointestinal cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. When we reach this year's goal, we will have raised $1 million over the last 16 years! Your sponsorship will be all that more effective in the much needed research to fight pancreatic cancer. Without research in techniques for advanced screening and cures, the large majority of the 250,000 people world-wide (about 34,000 in the U.S.) that are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer each year will be diagnosed with a terminal disease and palliative care will be their only option.
Training and volunteering for the PMC has been very therapeutic for all of us and it helps us preserve the many years of memories with Effie. Please help us reach our goal!
