The PMC is a fabulous event that supports a wonderful cause. The funds raised on this bike ride are used to support world class cancer research and treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). I rode this event for six straight years from 2011-2016. Last year, 2017, due to some scheduling conflicts I took a year off from participating. This year my ambition is to ride the full 2-day 192-mile ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown. Having turned 70-years old on December 1, 2017, I feel fortunate to be able to consider riding this distance. I suspect my speed will be slower than in prior years but this is a ride, not a race and the purpose is to raise money for the DFCI/Jimmy Fund not to set records for speed. My family and friends have been personally impacted by cancer, as has everyone’s family. Fortunately, innovative research from institutions such as the DFCI has led to long-term survivals in both family and friends. Your support of my ride will be much appreciated and you can be sure that any funds contributed will go to a good cause. One hundred per cent of the funds raised are passed through to the DFCI. I plan to train hard to be able to make the 192-mile journey on August 4-5. Again I will be riding with friends on Team Porto-TRADE. Our team has raised over $758,000 in its seven years with 8-14 riders participating each year. We did lose one of our teammates to cancer and she will be with us in spirit when we ride.
