I'm a proud supporter of the Pan Massachusetts Challenge (PMC), because it is leading a charge to beat cancer, and because 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's commitment to finding a cure. This year, I will ride on the Patriots Platelet Pedalers team, which raises money for Dr. Ken Anderson, the Kraft Family Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, to support his multiple myeloma research and development of novel therapies. The ride takes place the first weekend of August, and I am planning to ride 100 miles that Sunday.
While I have made donations to the PMC in years past, by riding in the PMC this year I have made a personal commitment to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber in a more substantial way. I was moved to make that commitment this year by the increasing number of close friends who have recenty been affected by cancer in their own lives. The disease has hit closer than ever, affecting both young and old, children and parents, personal friends and professional colleagues. I have heard first hand accounts about the amazing care and support provided at the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber, the life-saving therapies administered and the quality-of-life-saving impact of the staff.
In riding the PMC this year, my goal is to play a larger part in supporting these friends, their children and familes, and the excellent work being done at the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institue. Please join me in contributing to my ride- thank you!
