Family, Friends, and Co-workers,
Last year, I surprised myself and my oncology team by completing day 1 of my 26th PMC. Nine months after my bone marrow transplant, I had no idea how my body would hold up. In the end, sheer determination led me to the finish. Crossing the finish line last year brought a wave of emotions.
The experience was extra special for me as I had my nephew Keenan by my side. In 2023 with hardly no training, a borrowed bike and shoes, Keenan decided to ride because I couldn't. A gesture I will always remember!
Some may wonder why I’m back for my 27th PMC. For me, it goes back to a simple promise I made to myself at the start of my battle against Leukemia: if I win my fight, I will continue to do my part to help others win as well.
Although the side effects of treatment pose additional challenges in terms of training, I would not be here without the incredible care I received at Dana-Farber. Therefore, my goal is to get on the bike and raise as much as I can to help those currently battling this brutal disease. Funds raised by the PMC are crucial to Dana-Farber’s efforts. I’m living proof that those efforts truly make a diffeence.
Once more, my goal is to go as far as my mind and body will take me. One thing is certain: I know I will have the amazing support from my family, friends, co-workers, and my medical team. Together, we can all make a difference.
Normally, I don’t set a specific fundraising goal, but this year, my magic number is $11,112. How is that number significant? It will bring us to $300,000 lifetime raised over the course of my 27 years riding. Not bad for a guy who set out on this journey 27 years ago as a one-time ride to give back for my mother’s successful battle with cancer.
Joining me again, numerous members of my family will be joining me for the PMC weekend, volunteering to feed hungry riders. The volunteers are truly the backbone of the PMC, and I can’t thank you enough.
Finally, I want to say thank you to my family, friends, co-workers, medical team, and strangers for all your support, especially in my battle against Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). A special thanks to my wife Hyla and son’s Nolan and Braeden for being by my side through it all. In closing I consider myself fortunate to be able take on this journey once again. We all have been touched in some way by those who fought hard and lost the fight.
If you would like to support my ride again this year the information is below but please do not feel obligated in anyway. Do know 100% of your donation will go toward Dana Faber and Cancer research.
Every donation brings us closer by the mile.
Thank you,
Jim
