Why I Ride ...
This is my first year doing the Pan Mass Challenge to raise funds for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute! I am riding for my husband, Harrison Roberts, who was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in 2005. After 9 months of instensive chemo he went into remission, but not without complications. The intensive chemo, while saving his life, damaged his kidneys, and he now has kidney failure resulting in him needing dialysis five days a week. For years my husband has fought for his life since his diagnosis, with courage and perseverence, still having energy and love, despite everything, to raise our kids and be a caring husband. My husband rode the Pan Mass before, but due to his recent health challenges, he doesn't have the strength to take part in it now, which has encouraged me to ride in his place. Part of my reason for riding is to raise awareness on the long-term effects of cancer on survivors. Despite the medical advances that have led to the treatments for cancer today, there is still a lot of research to be done toward finding a cure, which is why I am determined to help raise money for cancer research.
