On August 2nd and 3rd, I will be interning and volunteering for my second PMC, a culmination of hard work over the summer to honor my Uncle Eddie, who bravely faced stage 4 colon cancer until his passing in 2018. His strength to fight this disease is one of my biggest inspirations, igniting a fire to contribute to the fight against this relentless illness and other diseases impacting loved ones and friends. While I may not have the knowledge or ability to cure cancer on my own, riding and volunteering through the PMC is my minute contribution to such a strong cause. Through fundraising, I aim to support groundbreaking research through Dana Farber and offer a small contribution to those fighting their own battles, so that they can share more time with their loved ones.
My Uncle Ed was a role model to me, and with his passing, I felt like I had lost a piece of myself. As I've grown older, his presence is still felt in my life, guiding me through tough moments and aiding in my times of reflection. Upon his passing, I immediately wanted to do anything I could to honor his legacy. In a way, I believe that in attending the University of Notre Dame, his alma mater, I can bring a piece of him with me wherever I am. In helping at this year's PMC, I aim to share his influence on me with others; his ability to brighten a room and make others smile has been a guiding principle that I have tried to show to others.
This year, I have designated all fundraising to be donated towards colon cancer research as well as pediatric osteosarcoma research. These two diseases have a personal connection to me and my family, and all fundraising will be geared towards curing these seemingly incurable diseases. If you would like to make a donation to support my PMC weekend and to support the research and treatment of adult and pediatric cancer at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, please click the link below. If you would like to make a donation by check, please make the check out to the PMC and mail it to 88 Liberty Avenue, Unit 2, Somerville, MA, 02144.
