Why we are riding for the 13th time:
In June 1992, on a beautiful sunshine-filled day, we came together, under a wedding canopy in the backyard of our new house, to form a new family team with each other and our three children, after having each lost a spouse to cancer.
In 2013, we formed Team Sunshine to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, which raises funds for adult and pediatric care and research to improve the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world. We also hoped to spread a little sunshine along the way. In 2019 and 2020, we were newly motivated to ride and raise funds so that our twin grandsons and our granddaughter do not have to fear the word cancer.
But in the fall of 2020, some rain came into our lives again when our daughter Emily was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The storm returned three years later in 2023, when Emily learned her cancer had recurred. Watching Emily, her husband and sons go through the experience that Marvin and I know too well has been difficult, to say the least.
And now in 2025, we are thankful that after completing a second course of chemotherapy in 2024, Emily has benefitted from curring edge maintenance therapy as part of a clinical trial, and is living her life juggling work and parenting with a smile on her face. We are immensely grateful for the scientific progress made in just the past few years to fight this type of disease.
Recently, Marvin, who has had several skin cancers removed, was diagnosed with prostate cancer and will undergo radiation via AI-driven robotics, resulting in a shorter treatment period and fewer side effects than traditional treatments.
We are now more passionate than ever to continue our fundraising efforts to help combat ovarian and other types of cancer.
Because we are doing this together, we ask that you donate to our team account, rather than to our individual pages. However, for more information on our individual reasons for riding, please visit our personal pages.
With your help, we will surpass our fundraising goals, and move us all along the path to a cure.
