Dear Friends,
On August 2nd and 3rd, I will once again be riding in the Pan Mass Challenge. PMC is a bicycle ride to raise money for cancer care and research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. I will be riding over 200 miles during the two days in August for this great cause. The PMC is the largest single fundraising event in the country and raised over $75 million in 2024 alone! This success is the result of a lot of people riding for, and caring about, a cure. This will be my fifth year riding in the PMC. If you're interested in knowing more, feel free to reach out to me directly.
This year I will be joined by some good friends in West Hartford and the BrentWheels Team. Many of you have donated in the past and it is always much appreciated. For those that cannot donate this year, no worries. But please allow me to tell the story of my cousin Brendan O’Shea in whose memory I will be riding during the 2025 PMC. Brendan passed away at the age of 57 in April of this year after an almost eight year battle with cancer. Throughout his battle, he was under the care of a team of specialists from Dana Farber. In talking to Brendan’s wife Krista about his cancer battle, what struck me most was the respect and admiration Brendan and Krista had for the team of specialists at Dana Farber. Dr Xiao Wei from Dana Farber was with them throughout Brendan’s treatment and she became like a family member to them. They found every specialist they encountered at Dana Farber to be not only brilliant, but also caring. Their many many trips from Springfield to Boston for all sorts of treatments and tests always left them hopeful despite knowing from the outset that Brendan’s cancer was never going into full remission. Dana Farber not only gave them hope for eight years but their treatments also helped Brendan see high school and college graduations, birthdays and other special occasions. “Cancer Sucks” say many of the signs along the PMC Ride. The signs are undoubtedly true, but the work by doctors and specialists at places like Dana Farber give hope and occasions of joy to people like Brendan and others affected by cancer.
Thanks to you all who have contributed previously and thanks to all who have agreed to contribute again this year. This year I have made a commitment to ride and raise a minimum of $6,000. Any donation that you can give to help would be greatly appreciated. The easiest way to contribute is to go online by clicking one of the links below. Or, if you prefer the old-school method, you can send a check made payable to PMC to my attention and I will send your check along. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail me at thomas.oshea@ubs.com or thomasjamesoshea@gmail.com or call me at 860-817-8405. Also, for those who have a matching gift program at work, please take advantage of the program and double your contribution!
Unfortunately, most all of us have been impacted by cancer in some shape or form. Many of us have lost close friends, colleagues or family members, while others have endured or witnessed those who have been impacted by the physical and emotional strains of battling cancer. Please know that any contribution is most appreciated. Reaching out seeking donations is sometimes a bit uncomfortable. But if I can return the favor and support one of your causes, feel free to hit me up. I look forward to sharing the results of my ride and the PMC with you in the near future.
Thanks!
Tom
