On December 25, 2003 my Aunt and Uncle came home early from their annual holiday vacation in St Martin. My Aunt had noticed that my Uncle wasn’t acting right and she had a gut feeling that they should come back to New York. Sure enough, she was right.
I remember searching the Internet trying to learn what Glioblastoma was and everything I found was telling me a sad story. My Uncle was always on the move, constantly working while traveling the world and he had recently retired. These were the years to finally slow down and enjoy the fruits of his hard work.
After his diagnosis, my Uncle and I started speaking on the phone often and he encouraged me to follow my dreams and start my own business. While I only got a few months of guidance, I still remember our conversations.
9 years ago I made the decision to ride my first Pan-Mass Challenge ride and I rode in my uncles memory. The PMC is a bike-a-thon fundraiser that donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to Dana-Farber and is the institute’s largest single contributor, raising more than 52 percent of the annual revenue at The Jimmy Fund®.
The PMC has raised $831 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since it's launch in 1980. Today, the PMC is the single largest contributor to Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund and is responsible for 55 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue.
Cancer affects us all, and it’s a great feeling to know that you can make a difference. Just think how good you will feel knowing that you were a part of something bigger than yourself; something that made a direct impact on so many lives. Something that results in a cure or made someone’s life that much easier in battling this disease. Donate today: http://profile.pmc.org/TK0107
Please take a moment and make a donation to my PMC ride. It takes only a few minutes and could make a lifetime of difference to the life of someone you know. Donate here: http://profile.pmc.org/TK0107
