Why I Ride ...For my Brother and Founder of the Crus11tour, Davey Hovey
I am VERY excited to participate in my EIGHTH Pan-Mass Challenge. As part of Team Crus11tour, we ride in honor of my older brother and best friend, Davey. While most of you know the story, Davey was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of Brain Cancer, in October of 2015. He was just 25 years old when he was diagnosed and fought bravely through multiple surgeries, countless seizures and numerous treatments as he had every intention of “crushing” his tumor. Sadly, Davey passed away after a courageous 16-month battle.
Since its inception less than 6 years ago, Team Crus11tour has raised over $6 MILLION for brain cancer research. Team Crus11tour once again has assembled a strong squad, this year represented by 80+ cyclists. We will ride to carry on Davey’s legacy and continue to fight Glioblastoma. The median survival from diagnosis is about 14.6 months and two-year survival is around 30%. The money we raise will be directly allocated to the David Hovey- CRUS11TOUR Fund at Dana Farber, to specifically fund Glioblastoma research by Davey's doctor, Dr. David Reardon. Davey was/is the ultimate role model to me, and he continues to motivate all of us to fight for him and what he started.
Thank you so much for your continued support. Nothing goes unnoticed and we couldn’t do it without you. The Crus11tour rolls on!!
