“Keep an open heart and an open mind in everything you do. People, best friends, significant others, even strangers, have so much to offer each other in life. Everybody has his or her own path, and no one path is greater or better than any other. Embrace those around you and everything about them. Sometimes even the most distant strangers will have the greatest impact on you.” - Duncan Sewall
These words, written by Duncan Sewall in 2016 as he left Argentina after six months of study there, eloquently capture Elizabeth’s spirit and the way she lived her life.
This August, Team Elizabeth will make its sixth ride in the PMC. As with every year’s ride, 100% of the funds raised by the team will go directly to the Elizabeth Alling Sewall Endowment at Dana-Farber. Currently at an awe-inspiring $664,000, the endowment is a tangible legacy of Elizabeth’s life and is a testament to the help of the many who cared so deeply about her and who continue to honor her memory through their support.
Team captain Scott Sewall will be leading a team of 12 riders this year on the challenging 84-mile route from Wellesley to Bourne on Saturday, August 4th.
If you’d like to donate, you can do so here with a credit card. If you prefer to donate by check, please make the check out to Pan Mass Challenge with the Elizabeth Alling Sewall Endowment on the memo line and send to: 57 Wheelwright Farm, Cohasset, MA 02025. As in every previous year, Gordon Sewall and sons Scott and Duncan have made a personal commitment of $2,500 to this year's ride. Last year they were honored to have a number of Angel Donors match this gift, but please know that gifts of any amount are appreciated. Thank you!
Gordon says: We, as a family and a broad circle of friends, continue to feel Elizabeth’s presence in our lives, a presence full of light, hope, laughter, love, curiosity and abiding affection for all 'who came to her door.'
The Alling-Sewall Family- Gordon, Scott and Duncan Sewall; Cynthia Alling, Elizabeth's mother; and Greg Alling, her brother- send deep appreciation for your support of Team Elizabeth's efforts to fund research that will lead to the development of new therapies targeted at lobular breast cancer. Go Team Elizabeth! #SaveTheBoobies
ABOUT ELIZABETH'S ENDOWMENT FUND
In 2012, Elizabeth Alling Sewall died from breast cancer. As she faced her terminal diagnosis with her family, they talked about ways to turn her illness into a positive force in their own lives and in the lives of their family and friends. Further, they talked about the good they could contribute to the world at large; to make this hard journey meaningful by helping people they'd never know in their lifetimes.
These conversations led to the creation of The Elizabeth Alling Sewall Endowment at Dana-Farber. This fund will exist in perpetuity providing a steady stream of resources to support the work of Dr. Eric Winer and his colleagues at Dana-Farber’s Breast Oncology Center as they push on to more effective treatment. The Sewall family has chosen the PMC as its annual fundraising outreach for Elizabeth’s fund. Team Elizabeth rides to generate enthusiasm and support for breast cancer research in the spirit of Elizabeth's legacy.
