I'm proud to ride in the Pan-Mass Challenge to help bring us Closer by the Mile to a cure for cancer. This ride is deeply personal for me, and I will carry the memories of several incredible people with every mile I ride.
I’m riding in honor of Paul Hartley, a kind and thoughtful colleague I had the pleasure of working with briefly at Polyvinyl Films before his passing in January 2025. I’m also riding for my running buddy and family friend, Tom Penny, who shared many miles and laughs with me during SQRR runs and marathon training; for my high school friend, Curt Rahilly, who shared my love of competitive skiing and good times on the slopes; and in memory of our dear family friend and neighbor, Rachid Hankour, who lit up the room with his charm, stories of travel, and deep love for his family.
My dad, Charles R. Christianson, who passed away from cancer in 2021, taught me from an early age to aim high, believe in myself, and never let obstacles stand in the way of my dreams. My mother-in-law, Mary Joan Shea, also lost to cancer in 2021, was a brilliant and accomplished woman whose strength, intelligence, and grace made her an extraordinary role model for me and my family.
These individuals brought comfort, belonging, strength, and kindness into my life. Their love, humor, support and wisdom continue to guide me, and this ride is a way for me to honor them.
The PMC raises more money for charity than any other athletic fundraising event in the country, with 100% of rider-raised dollars going directly to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Your donation supports world-class cancer research, treatment, and care that saves lives every day.
I'll be riding with the Ocean State Cancer Crushers alongside Sharon Hartley (Paul’s wife). Asking for donations isn’t easy, but this cause means so much to me and to so many others. If you’re able, please consider donating so we can honor those we’ve lost, support those still fighting, and bring hope to those who haven’t yet been diagnosed.
