This August, I’ll be participating in my 21st Pan-Mass Challenge. Each mile I ride is a tribute—to the incredible progress we’ve made in cancer research and to the people we’ve lost too soon. This ride is deeply personal...it always has been.

This is now our second ride without the earthly love and support of Malia Jusczyk, our Pedal Partner and bright light for 12 incredible years. Malia passed away in 2023, just shy of her 15th birthday, after a long, courageous fight. She may not be at the finish line cheering us on, but she is absolutely still with us—her strength, spirit, and fierce determination remain our tailwind. Her words, “I’ve got this,” remind us all to keep pushing forward.

As I reflect on my own two-decade journey with the PMC, I’m reminded of how much has changed—and how much hasn’t. Kerry, Oeghan, and Ciara continue to support me, just as they did when we began this ride together. What started as a single challenge in 2005 has become a yearly commitment to something far bigger than myself. And though the aches and pace may change, the mission has not.

This year, I am again riding in memory of Malia and so many others but to also continue my story of my diagnosis of melanoma. Melanoma remains the deadliest form of skin cancer. In the U.S. alone, over 100,000 new cases of melanoma will be diagnosed this year. While survival rates for early-stage melanoma are high, advanced cases are still incredibly difficult to treat. It reminds us that while great progress has been made, the work is far from done and everyone can help prevent this type of cancer.

Since 1980, the Pan-Mass Challenge has raised over $1 billion for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and it remains the largest single athletic fundraising event in the country. I’m proud to be a part of that effort again, and I’m asking for your support.

To participate, I must raise a minimum of $6,000 by summer’s end. 100% of rider-raised dollars go directly to cancer research and treatment. Every donation matters, and every dollar brings us one step closer to cures.
