Year 7 of the Pan Mass Challenge!!!! I cannot believe it's my 7th year doing the pan mass challenge. I'm very proud of the fact that with a lot of friends, family friends and family members we've raised just shy of 30,000 dollars!!! Which is incredible & that's why this year my goal is to raise 5,220. I hope that we together can crush this goal!
One of the biggest reasons I ride and raise money for the Pan Mass challenge is not only to help kids & adults but to honor the lives whom have been taken from the horrible disease. Someone in my life who growing up was not only a huge role model for me to treat others with kindness was my god mother Janie Obrien. I was 16 years old when Jane passed away from her cancer. It still to this day at now 22 years old still effects me. Janie was as my brother called her was like having a 2nd mom. She had a long battle with cancer and unfortunately passed away in April of 2019. Janie if you were fortunate to meet her you probably knew she was one of if not the best bakers & enjoyed red wine with some cheese and crackers. To this day I still don't think my chocolate chip cookies live up to hers that she made so often for us as kids growing up.
Well I do know one thing and that is she still is always with me every day and especially when I ride the Pan Mass Challenge. Every year she helps guide me and everyone else riding to the finish line!!! I ride in honor for my Aunt Janie Obrien!
Another big reason why I ride the Pan Mass Challenge is my Dad, Rob Alber. He not only survived cancer once, but 5 times!!! Which is incredible & Im reminded every day by him that he still always is and will be my hero.
Surprisingly another being I ride for is my dog Maggie, last April at the age of 10 we unfortunately lost her to a spinal cancer that spread way too fast. This year it'll be the first year I get home after a long 84 miles and now be greeted by Maggie Muffin. However I do know that she will be also running along side helping myself and every other rider push to that finish line!
Now I don't just ride for my aunty Janie Obrien & my Dad every year when I get out and train for the Pan Mass Challege every spring and summer I ride for all the kids and adults battling every day! I hope one day that there is and will be a cure for all cancers so no one will have to suffer or worry anymore.
I'm a proud cyclist and supporter of the PMC because my Aunt Jane, my Uncle Jimmy, my dog Maggie & my Dad, Rob Alber, (who still volenteers at the finish line and is waiting for me along side my mom Lisa Alber, Audrey Jordano, Dean, Derick, Cindy, Gavin & John Obrien!
P.S.... Every year I ride it's always a special day I love riding for what Pan Mass stands for to kick cancers butt!
