June Update: Have you ever felt behind the 8-ball?
Call it because of weather, schedules, work or just LIFE...I'm definitely behind in my training! But, with a little boost from joining a team this year (Go TeamBrent) and a just a tad of over confidence ;) going into my 2nd PMC ride- I'm feeling super energized! I'm asking for your help though...let's get some momentum going on the fundraising side! Afterall, the whole point is to support the mission of Dana Farber and working towards a world that is CANCER FREE!
2025 Update: I'm SO excited to announce that I've committed to riding again as part of PMC '25! I'll also be joining forces with the awesome crew of TEAMBRENT (20+ year PMC veterans, so I'm honored that they'll have me)
Here's Why:
Last year at this time, I was cautiously optimistic that I could bike 162 miles. I know that I really, really wanted to, but deep inside of me I wasn't sure that I could. But I took a chance, trained as best I could, gave up A LOT of Saturdays to riding, ate too many nutrition bars, went to bed early and go up even earlier, and somehow...it worked. Not only did I finish, but I had the time of my life! Yes, it was hard, at times it seemed unending, and the heat on Saturday... let's just say that sitting at rest stops, on ice blocks, felt like a day at the spa. Throughout both tough days, I felt my team that was riding with me- I was energized by those who I was riding for, motivated by so many of you who financially contributed- helping me to raise over $11,000- and blessed by the amazing PMC riding community and volunteers who got up at dawn to rally the riders and support us for, literally, every mile.
Truthfully, I cried at the finish line. I remember walking with my family aftewards and thinking I had accomplished something that I didn't know I had the strength to complete. But then I remembered my mantra: You're riding a bike, they're fighting Cancer. What about those who need strength...and research...and a cure? The real strength is seen in those who have to find it day and night, through treatments and procedures, while trying to live their lives, commit to their families, jobs, and communities...all the while not knowing if their strength will be enough.
I'm riding again this year in honor of the amazing strength shown by those who fight, or have fought, this awful disease. I'm humbled by the fact that my one act of strength can be a tool to inspire others to financially support my ride, and help Dana Farber continue their vital mission. One person can become a strength multiplier...with the help of so many generous individuals that supported me last year, together we crushed my goal of $6000. And, I intend to do it again this year!
August 2-3, 2025, I'll be cycling in my 2nd Pan Mass Challenge, riding from Wellesley to Provincetown MA, 162 miles in 2 days! I'm joining the riders, donors and volunteers who work tirelessly with one goal in mind: to live in a world that is Cancer free.
Think about the impact of Cancer research:
- Because of research and advances in treatment: I know at least TEN women who are are living Cancer free due to advances in Breast Cancer screenings and treatment.
- Because of research and advances in treatment: I have TWO very dear friends who are here today, Cancer free, because of intensive treatment protocols to fight very rare cancers.
- Because of research and advances in treatment: More diverse therapies and access to care are being developed, bringing treatment and critical education to ALL.
I've chosen the PMC because they are leading a charge to beat Cancer, literally mile-by-mile.100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to cancer treatment and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, with $75 Million donated to Dana-Farber in 2024!
I'm grateful that you took the time to read my story. Please consider a donation of any amount to support my ride and help me to multiply our strength!!
