Commit and you'll figure it out.
The PMC’s motto bounced around my head quite a bit last year in my first year of fundraising and riding. Overwhelming generosity made the seemingly daunting task of convincing friends, family, acquaintances and strangers to donate thousands of dollars so I can ride my bike 186 miles over two days a lot easier than I thought it would be.
To paraphrase Dr. Dennis Doherty, Strong Work, team.
In 2024, 'Team Strong Work' is riding with Team Gavin, and all** contributions you make to me will be directed to pediatric cancer research.
The good news: Gavin finished treatment this spring and is cancer-free.
The bad news: Gavin's dad Derek (https://profile.pmc.org/DB0573) informed me that pediatric cancer research is significantly underfunded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The primary reason is because pediatric cancer is considered rare as more adults than kids are diagnosed with cancer. However, pediatric cancer is not rare when it happens to your child or a child you know.
'Team Strong Work' was created in memory of D3. We ride for his family. We ride in honor of Gavin and in recognition of all that he and his family have gone through. We ride for so many other friends and family who have battled cancer. And we raise money for research because we've seen the devastation cancer causes.
Please accept my gratitude and appreciation. Now let's do it again. Thank you in advance for making a difference while I am out riding my bicycle.
(**Proceeds from the limited edition Team Strongwork Earring Collection will go to pancreatic cancer research.)
