Dear Family and Friends:
I am excited to be riding in the 2012 Pan Mass Challenge. The past 2 years I have cheered the Captain's Crew as they rode across the PMC finish line in Provincetown. This year I am joining the Captain's Crew, including my Dad, in their 4th year of riding in the PMC. This great team of men and women rides 192 miles every August, at first in honor, but now in memory, of Don Govoni, The Captain.
Don, or "Mr. G." to me, was a close family friend. Mr. G and my Dad coached our baseball teams. Our families spent a lot of time together, and to say he was an important part of my childhood would be a gross understatement of what he meant to me and my family.
Through his diagnosis and two year battle with urachel cancer, a rare form of bladder cancer, Mr. G never lost his signature smile and laugh. The courage and attitude he demonstrated was inspiring. He is sorely missed. I am hoping to do my part this year, by raising money for cancer research in Mr. G's honor, and in honor of all those who have who have fought cancer.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. Every dollar counts, and every dollar you give to support my ride goes to fighting cancer.
