Hello everyone, On Saturday August 6, 2011 I am proud to state that I will be riding in my 5th Pan Mass Challenge! This year, my firm, Mortgage Equity Partners LLC ("MEP") has chosen to ride with "Team Cisco." I founded our team five+ years ago. My colleagues and partners in the mortgage industry ride for the cause each year and are proud to be part of the event. The PMC is the official charity of Mortgage Equity Partners. This year by combining with another team we plan on significantly increasing our historical fund raising goals.
This year I am extremely proud to be directing all of our funds to sarcoma research at Dana Farber. There are over 50 variants of this disease. Sarcomas can occur in any part of the body and in internal organs as well. Survival rates are not high. Due to the rarity of the cancer there are only a few institutions in the world that are equipped to manage patients in an effective way. Dana Farber is one on the top centers in the world for Sarcomas so it is fitting that we riding in the PMC and that we are directing our funds to that research group. Dr. Demetri is director of the Center for Sarcoma and Bone Oncology at DFCI, director of the Ludwig Center at Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, and executive director for Clinical and Translational Research at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research; he is literally internationally known in this field of research; in short he is the equivalent of a rock star in the world of oncology. Every dollar we raise is directed to him and his research group. Our funding will have a direct impact as it helps Dana Farber continue its research in this field. I personally email Dr. Demetri every year after the ride and informally notify him of how much we raised and kindly remind him to make good use of the funds and hopefully find a cure. Although there is a light-heatedness to my comments, I am not kidding and I'm sure he knows that. For more on Dr. Demetri please see this video.

As for the ride, the Sturbridge to Bourne route is a vigorous bike ride along 110 miles. More importantly however this is an athletic fund raising event supporting the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Aside from being one of the best cancer centers in the world, Dana Farber is an invaluable place for those fighting cancer and the caregivers whose lives cancer also touches. I can personally attest to the truly amazing people who do the important work at Dana Farber everyday in the battle to eradicate cancer. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to participate in the PMC. I am proud to be able to raise money for a disease that has the potential to affect so many of us. Certainly this ride requires strength and endurance and as I test those limits on Saturday, I remind myself of the strength, endurance and courage that cancer patients posses. My fitness level pales in comparison to the mental toughness of any cancer patient. I confess this gets me through the ride. I am also fortunate to be riding as part of a team. My colleagues at Mortgage Equity Partners (my firm), our friends, and relatives are collectively riding as "Team Cisco." We have come together because fighting cancer is a passion we all share.
