Why I Ride ...
I ride with TeamBrentWheels. In 2005 I started riding to show our family's support for a dear boy who was fighting stage IV neuroblastoma. He thankfully recovered. For a while after that I rode for to raise money and awareness to help others who were in the same situation.
Over the past few years, cancer has been more present in people that I love. My wife lost an aunt, my mother lost her battle with pancreatic cancer, many of us have had cancer scares, a family member overcame breast cancer, and many other friends and coworkers have been impacted.
While every occurance of the disease is unique and requires individual care, research on solutions in one type of cancer often benefits other cancers. I like supporting Neuroblastoma because it is a form that affects children and a too few dollars of research goes towards fighting children's cancer.
The Dana Farber Institute continues to be one of the leading centers of treatment and research leading the charge. Our donations make a difference in individual's lives and in the broader community. This is what I think about every time I get on my bike. This is why I ride.
