As I rode up that last hill in Truro my thoughts turned to my sore and tired and aching body from 190 miles of peddling and in the saddle for two days, Suddenly I felt the pain I had was trivial in comparison to what Cancer patients face each and every hour of the fight that they engage in to rid themselves of this terrible disease.
That is the real ride of courage.
This year I join Team Flip's Flyers. for my last and Final Ride..... As the past 5 years have been dedicated to my friend's who have lost their battle to this dreadful disease, this year i ride for "Survivors" and especially for a true fighter, and survivor. A Dennis Firefighter and Marine Corp VET, who put's his life on the line each and everyday for people like you and I , Dan (FLIPPY) O'Connell , who now must fight the fight of his life against this sucky disease called cancer that has come calling once again into this great friend's life. I also will ride for my Special Survivor Isabella Shaw , who started me on this Ride for a cure path , and today is an inspiration for all survivors.... We will fight this fight together and as i cross the line in Ptown , I will hug my Friend Flippy , And know that the Fight continues.........Please donate NOW...... Here is my Friend Flip's Story.... And the start of Team Flip's Flyers....
“October 31, 2009, midnight. As I stand over my bathroom sink with blood pouring out of my nose and mouth, my only thought is that I can’t believe this in how I am going to die, alone in my bathroom. All of the years working as a firefighter, the close calls, the dark smoky fires, and the Marine Corps years before. So many friends and family members and yet here I am, all alone. Looking back now, I know that some journey’s must be taken alone, but not this one.” Dan “Flippy” O’Connell
Our friend Dan O’Connell was diagnosed in January 2009 with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. (ACC) is a rare form of cancer that usually originates in the head and neck. With the help of an amazing team of doctors at both Mass General Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Dan is back to work as a Firefighter and medic in Dennis, MA.
“Team Flip’s Flyers” is riding this year for the first time, in honor of our friend Dan. We are a small group of friends, and neighbors, co-workers and acquaintances who have all been touched by cancer. We hope to make this a yearly tradition so that our team will grow and people like “Flip” will continue to benefit from state-of-the-art treatments like the Proton beam therapy that shrunk his tumor by more than half.
Although Dan’s cancer is not cured, he is passionate about helping others, especially children, get the best treatment and medicine possible so that they can thrive and continue to live long and healthy lives. Your contribution to our ride is vital in funding and supporting treatments such as these. 100% of your donation will go towards the research, funding and efforts that help Dana Farber saves lives every day.
We look forward to our journey ahead and plan to meet our fundraising goals because it is crucial in saving the lives of so many! “Flip’s Flyer’s” are a team with a lot of heart and soul! Hopefully with the help of our community and the support of The Claddagh Fund and The Dropkick Murphy’s
we will begin our freshman year as a force that will surpass their fundraising commitments. In building our tradition, we intend to help drive the Pan Mass Challenge fundraising totals past their records in years to come!

Thanks to your donation the road to a CURE will get a little bit shorter and perhaps a small bit easier… for My Peddle Partners , those that have beat and still battle their cancers and THOSE that lost the battle.+++

And Now the quest for a cure starts again.. In your debt.
