On August 3rd I will join thousands of dedicated riders and my Bikers Dozen teamates to ride my 4th PMC; 86 miles from Babson College to the Bourne Bridge in an effort to finding a cure for cancer.
Team Bikers Dozen started 20 years ago with two riders; this year we are 33 riders including 15 “second generation riders,” the children of the original riders. Our team has raised over $5 million to date; we direct our monies to support the research for two types of pediatric brain tumors, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas (DIPG) and Pediatric Low Grade Astrocytomas (PLGA) at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Our team chooses to support these particular cancers and the doctors researching them because of a personal team loss.
Although there is still no cure for cancer, with funding from the PMC the doctors at Dana-Farber have made great strides toward understanding and treating it. In fact, the dollars raised by my team have already helped get a pediatric brain tumor drug approved by the FDA for wide-scale distribution!
My personal fundraising goal this year is $5,000. If you are interested and able to support this effort, I'm appreciative of every dollar. I will ride in the PMC for family, friends, and anyone who has battled or is currently battling various types of cancer.
