I am so excited to be riding my 5th Pan-Mass Challenge this year! I've been lucky to ride with my Mom for my first four years, but this year will be my first solo ride.
As in years past, I'm riding in honor of my Dad, Papa, my aunts Carolyn, Karen, and Michelle, and my cousin Allison, and in memory of my Grandpa and Aunt Lull. Keeping Team Crackalackin alive, I am also riding in honor of Robby Surprenant and Ms. San; in memory of Sandra Horvath, Harry Eva, and Bill Goodman; and in support of every person whose life has been impacted by cancer.
This year feels different for two reasons. First––A few months ago, my Papa was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. Although our family was deeply upset to get this news, it is a comfort to know that he can receive advice and care from brilliant medical professionals at Dana Farber. Second––This year, as I turn 25, I'll start breast cancer screening protocols due to my BRCA2 mutation. I feel so grateful to have access to these preventative measures as I start regular screenings at Dana Farber.
100% of rider-raised funds through the Pan-Mass Challenge go directly to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, where my Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. In the last 5 years, more than half of all FDA-approved cancer drugs were developed with significant contributions from Dana-Farber investigators. I am incredibly grateful to DCFI for all of the work that they do. I appreciate anything you can donate to my ride, which will benefit families like ours as Dana Farber continues research into genetic mutations and cancer treatments and cures.

BRCA2 is a mutation that increases one's likelihood of developing certain cancers. About half of my extended family members who have been tested for the mutation have been found to have one. Mutation or no mutation, we have all gained a better understanding of our cancer risk and have information that prepares us to check early and often for potential cancer growth. Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the recipient of 100% of PMC rider-raised funds, has played a key role in this education and care. I'm excited to spend another year supporting Dana Farber so they can support families fighting against cancer.
