I dedicate this years ride to my mum who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and sadly passed away on May 14th just five weeks from her initial diagnosis. We granted her every wish and celebrated her to the very end. Rest in peace mum.
On the same day my mum passed, my Uncle Ray also passed to lung cancer. Forever the cyclist he was escorted to the service by members of his cycling club.
May 14th was a tough day for the family.
This will be my 18th year riding the PMC and I have now passed $110k in total fundraising! It is now my 30th year completing a cancer related charity event.
As I look back on over 15 years of commitment to the PMC, I am reminded everyday that this event does make a difference. Each mile I ride and every $ I raise does get us closer to a cure.
Our lives are shaped by singular events and this truly has been personal to me for over 25 years and ever since my grandfather passed away to lung cancer and now my mum to pancreatic cancer and uncle to lung cancer.
One of the items I remember my grandfather by is a small teddy bear from St Johns Hospice, from England. This is the hospice that cared for him during his last months and days. This is the bear that I have kept and cherised for 25+ years. I have attached his bear to my bicycle and running shorts in numerous events around the world to raise money and awareness to find a cure for cancer. The bear is getting a little worn now but memories will never fade.
Each year I also ride for our god daughter who continues to be in remission.
This year I will be riding for Team Marshfield Rams Cancer again.
I ride because I want to make a difference. I ride because I can.
Any donation is most welcomed. Please click on any support my ride donate buttons and give as much as you can.
100% of very donation I receive goes toward efforts to find a cure.
Thank you
Stuart
