This year will be my 12th PMC ride. I am sad that I now ride in honor of one of my closest friends, Amy, who was diagnosed with breast cancer. Amy was fortunate that she caught her cancer early. We are extremely grateful to Meredith Starr for connecting Amy with the amazing doctors at Dana Farber who successfully treated her.
I continue to raise money in honor of my brother-in-law, Ben, who has brain cancer, and who continues to amaze and inspire us all. As you know, I also raise money in memory of many important people in my life and in the lives of my friends and family. My mother-in-law, Jane Kinney, passed away September 29, 2007 at the age of 59 after battling ovarian and uterine cancer. She was an amazing woman, mother and grandmother. We were fortunate that Jane was able to meet each of our four children before she died, including her namesake, Margaret Jane, born in May 2007. Jane's mother June, my grandfather Chet, my mother's sister Bette and brother Eddie, all passed from some form of cancer. My Uncle Kiki was diagnosed with colon cancer a while ago, my cousin Julie beat breast cancer but succumed to Covid 19 in 2020. Great friends of ours have also lost mothers to this terrible disease.
I also raise money in honor of our good friend's daughter, Elizabeth Mack. She is almost seventeen years old and a survivor of a rare form of brain cancer. Without advancements in treatment protocols, Elizabeth would not be alive today.
When will it be enough?
My mother-in-law witnessed the very first PanMass that my husband John and his brother Brian rode in her honor in August 2007. It was an amazing event. Every year since, he and his brother Brian have continued to ride in her memory. Despite my lack of hard core training, I will continue to join their team to raise money for Dana Farber. Ben's chemo and radiation treatment protocol was developed at Dana Farber.
I am proud to say that our 19 year old son Jack will be riding his 7th PMC ride this year and our 17 year old son Patrick is riding his second. This is an amazing family tradition that we have created to honor the memory of an amazing woman!
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
Please consider donating to this extremely important cause!
