On August 4th and 5th, I will join 6,000 other riders and participate in my 6th Pan Mass Challenge. I will ride 192 miles from Sturbridge to Provincetown. This year is extremely special to me as I will ride for the first time with my 16 year old daughter, Makayla Kalman.
Why do I ride? I am committed to this crazy ride for many reasons. First, the Pan Mass Challenge raises more money than any other athletic fundraising even in the country to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute's commitment to finding a cure. Furthermore, the ride is fully sponsored which means that every every rider raised dollar goes directly to cancer research, not administrative fees.
On a more personal note, I am committed to PMC as I have witnessed many family members and friends battle cancer over the years. My daughter and I ride in memory of my father and her grandfather, Neil Kalman, who was taken from us far too early by cancer. We also ride for my daughter's childhood friend, Abby Kehoe, who was also taken from us at the extremely young age of 12 yrs, by cancer. And I ride in memory of Kyle O'Grady, my PMC pedal partner of two years, who was also taken at the extremely young age of 15 yrs, by cancer. We ride because no one should ever witness the life of a family member or friend be taken by Cancer. They have inspired us to ride, because we can, and carry on the mission to eradicate cancer. We ride for those who can't and we ride to give others a chance.
With every passing year and every passing mile, we are closer to better cancer care, research and hopefully one day, a cure.
I've made a personal commitment to raise $13,000.00. I hope you can help me achieve this goal. Every donation brings us closer by the mile.

What Cancer Cannot Do
Cancer is so limited
It cannot cripple Love
It cannot shatter Hope
It cannot corrode Faith
It cannot destroy Peace
It cannot kill Friendship
It cannot suppress Memories
It cannot silence Courage
It cannot invade the Soul
It cannot steal eternal Life
It cannot conquer the Spirit.
