About Me: Hello, friends! Most of you know I have been a pediatric nurse for 15 years, and for the past four years, I've been passionately involved in pediatric oncology at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Each day, as I step into the hospital, I am profoundly humbled and inspired by the incredible children I have the privilege to care for. Their unwavering strength and determination to overcome the challenges of their illnesses serve as a constant reminder that we should all strive to live with the same resilience and positivity.
Why I Ride: Last year was my first time riding the PMC and it was nothing short of transformative. As I rode through the streets, I was surrounded by survivors, fighters, and families expressing their gratitude and cheering us on. One of the most impactful moments was the ride into the lunch stop on the first day, lined with posters of children bravely battling cancer. It was in that moment that I realized the profound impact this event has on raising awareness and support for those fighting against cancer. What I love most is that 100% of the funds raised go directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, with a record breaking $72 million raised in 2023. This year the PMC will aim to hit a historic 1 BILLION Dollar mark!!! I invite you to be 1 in a billion, whether you choose to support me through a donation, words of encouragement, or by sharing this page, your contribution will make a tangible impact. Together, let's pedal towards a world where cancer is synonymous with hope, resilience, and triumph.
Thank you for joining me in this journey,
XO Shelley
Below is the story of the Hovey Family and founder of CRUSH11TOUR
CRUS11TOUR is the name that David (Davey) Hovey gave to his battle against Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Davey grew up in Simsbury, CT and Chatham, MA. He graduated from Westminster School and then St. Lawrence Univ., where he captained the Lacrosse team in 2013. He was just 25 years old when he was diagnosed and fought bravely through multiple surgeries, seizures and treatments as he had every intention of “crushing” his tumor. Sadly, Davey passed away after a courageous 16-month battle. During this time, he partnered with Golf Fights Cancer, raising substantial funds through participation in their 100-hole Golf Marathon (June 2016) as well as initiating a 9 member Boston Marathon Team (April 2017). He left behind a loving family and many close friends, all of who have vowed to keep his CRUS11TOUR legacy alive. His strength and competitive spirit have motivated many to raise money for important brain cancer research, specifically being conducted by Dr. David Reardon and his team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Davey taught us many valuable lessons during his battle with cancer: the importance of family and friends, giving back, and always to “Keep the Faith”!! CRUS11TOUR never ends!
