This year is my 16th Pan-Mass Challenge and I am honored to continue to be a member of this community. Much progress has been made in treating cancer with the Pan-Mass Challenge's support as a major fundraiser. But there is more work to be done.

I started participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge in honor of my mother, Donna, who was a patient at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for over 2.5 years. Her medical team took excellent care of her and our entire family throughout her illness. This year I am cycling and raising money again in memory of my mother and in memory of my grandmother Virginia, my Uncle Andy, my brother-in-law's mother Molly Lehane, and friends Kris Kono, Kenny, and Raquel. I also ride in honor of my stepmother Peggy, several friends who have successfully battled cancer, and to support the crucial and difficult work of the faculty and staff at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

I've made a personal commitment to ride and raise $13,000. I am fortunate to be supported by a dedicated, unofficial fundraising team of family and friends, especially my sister Jeanne. We have enjoyed holding fundraising events such as a bowling tournament and live music performances donated by local artists that bring people together for some fun. This coming together as a community to support Dana-Farber while enjoying each other’s company makes this endeavor even more rewarding for me.

The money raised through my PMC is unrestricted, which allows Dana-Farber greater flexibility than government grants, and which recognizes that the path to medical discoveries can be unpredictable. Your donation is tax deductible and 100% of it will go to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; the PMC organization pays its expenses through other means.

Please know that this is not about me and a bike ride. I feel honored and grateful that I am able to give back to Dana-Farber in this way, to support its far-reaching efforts to understand, treat, and prevent cancer, and care for the people it affects.
