PMC 2025 -
Year # 8 of riding a bike in my adult life, primarily because of PMC weekend and my desire to tell cancer to go (the f) away!
This awful disease continues to take amazing people away from my world. I was inspired by friends riding, following my dad's lost battle to 2 types of cancer I got on my bike and did the same. And last year just after PMC weekend, we lost my boyfriend's mom to cancer. So I will continue to do what I can to help the good fight the good fight - for those who cannot, and for those who are fighting battes of their own. .
PMC means so many things to me. Its 2 days in August that I ride with thousands of other riders to help raise money for Dana Farber Cancer Institute and their tireless efforts to help treat and cure this awful disease. Its a weekend where my competitive nature goes out the window, and I am with friends riding thru MA - we laugh and cry, eat PB & Fluff sandwiches, have beers overlooking the waters at MMA. New friendships are developed, and we create memories that last forever. Most importantly, we are together - raising millions of dollars to help fight cancer.
I am riding once again this year, but due to my body not cooperating like I want it to - i will only be doing 1 day of riding. I'l ride just under 90 miles from Wellesley to Bourne, and help raise as much as I can for Dana Farber and their relentless efforts to fight to find a cure and find treatment for those affected along the way.
I was first really introduced to how evil cancer was, when I was in college. One of my dad's best friends was taken from us by this awful disease. I was very lucky to be so far removed for it for so long, until July 2017, when my dad was diagnosed with two types of cancer: Myelofibrosis - a bone marrow leukemia and Urothelial Carcinoma, cancer in his kidney. With the two types of cancer, treatments were limited. He didn't give up. He sadly lost his fight just 6 months after his diagnosis - and we miss him every day.
Cancer fighters and family are a community. I can't imagine going thru this all without the support system we had at every level. I want to do what I can to help give back and raise money to help support the fight against this awful disease.
This [ast sadly,it continues to be close to home – Last year we lost some amazing people: Lisa Dimitri (my boyfriend's mom), Joan Brandt (Onset times won't be the same without her), Deb (a riding friends mother in law). My Dad's cousin is currenty fighting like a warrior, as is her daughter in law. These loved ones, fighting their butts off are absolute heroes to me– and I could not be prouder of their fight and angry at cancer for taking another person from me.
There will be so many other people that will be in my thoughts and heart this year as well, as the past 3-4 years cancer has seemed to rip thru my community. Some we have lost, some in remission, some continue the fight. Rick and Ricky Logan, Bill Dufour, Jessica Dufuor, Big Tim O'Connor, Duncan Finigan, Billy Huminik, Matt Ditullio, Lacie Hanken, Joanne Dutra, Norbert W, MaryEllen S, Dylan B, Jeff H, Kathy T, Tom P, Jeanne F, Hoppy, John L, Amy C, Beth P, Jack M, Carren and so many more that have been touched by this awful disease.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. 100% of rider-raised revenue (what I get from your amazing donations!) went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. Last year, over $75M was raised from the PMC - my team TEAM DUNCAN, raised over $1M of that!, and we hope to raise even more this year! If you want to learn more about where last year’s donations were utilized, you can find a chart HERE and THIS REPORT goes into further detail about each of these categories. This is the year that the PMC will reach over $1B donated to Dana Farber Cancer Institute!
I want to do what I can to help give back. This year, I'll ride again, in memory of my father: Don Arduino, and for all of those that have been touched in some way by this awful disease. Please consider donating to help fight cancer:
I'll make sure to post updates and pictures during PMC weekend – and I will create a facebook fundraiser that I will post some of my training (once I get my butt in gear!). Sadly, cancer still rages on - and anything you can do to help me raise funds to help the good fight with DFCI is so very much appreciated.
Much love xoxo

My orignal story from year 1 (2018):
For the last 10 years the PMC ride has been a tradition for my mother and I. Not to ride, but to cheer on the riders. We would walk up to Onset Ave, on a Saturday in August, just amazed at these people riding over 100 miles for a cause and thanking us for cheering them on along the route. At first we didn’t personally know anyone that was riding, we were just in awe of these riders. My network of friends that participate in the PMC has expanded over the years, I just became so inspired by these amazing people.. This past year, the ride hit so much closer to home. Regardless of the fact i had never been on a road bike, I told my friends that ride that I wanted to ride with them - for my father. And away I went. 2018 - my first PMC ride was in the books.
My Dad was a fighter. Right from the start. He knew something was wrong with his body, but the doctors couldn't quite pinpoint what was causing his symptoms. They finally got on the right track, and the teams at Brigham and Womens and Dana Farber moved quickly. My dad was diagnosed with two types of cancer: Myelofibrosis - a bone marrow leukemia and Urothelial Carcinoma, cancer in his kidney.
This year, I'll ride 168 miles, in memory of my father: Don Arduino.
