Hi,
This year, due to the pandemic, we have had to get creative about how we are going to raise fund for the important battle against cancer.
My PMC Reimagined
I have been doing the 192 mile 2 day ride for the past 24 years. Nancy, a 2 time cancer survivor got me into it in 1996, the year before we were married. She was riding the PMC as a way to stick it to cancer and prove she was strong enough to overcome her first difficult cancer battle.
Now, 24 years later, I plan doing my very first Triathlon as my PMC reimagined. Ok, it will be a solo-triathlon, but still challenging enough for me to complete the ½ mile swim, 10 mile bike and 3 mile run. The 10 mile bike should be a breeze for me…well maybe not because it will be done after a tiring ½ mile swim and I will need to conserve enough energy for the 3 mile run. Although I have been swimming in a pool the past few winters, open water swimming is totally new to me. And running I have not done since a short stint on the cross-county team in high school. Both of those represent new challenges for me. Since many cancer patients end up battling more than 1 type or form of cancer, I think it’s fitting to suffer through 3 different challenges.
I know this pandemic has hit folks hard in many ways including financially. But I also know that you are compassionate and understand that cancer has now slowed down, and people are still suffering. And you know that places like the Dana Faber Cancer Institute have been hit hard with significant financial burdens adjusting to this new world of social distancing, online appointments, personal protective devices, and screening/testing supplies. And they have lost a large portion of their yearly income due to cancelled and postponed charity events.
So I am asking that you do whatever you can this year to support the effort to help those struggling with cancer.
Thank You
Bob
