I ride in memory of two people integral to who I am as a person: my father, Ira Sheres (gastroesophageal cancer) and the woman who helped raise me, Rose Johnson (breast cancer). Ira, my ''Poppy,'' was my biggest supporter. As much as he hated it when I first got into cycling (''You can't do something a little less dangerous?'' he would plead), I know he would be cheering me on all along my route if he were still alive. My life was forever altered when I lost him and Rose in February 2021 and September 2020.
I also ride to celebrate and honor those who are still with us, thanks to the research that has given way to cancer treatments and interventions.

2024: I've signed up for the 50-mile gravel ride this year on September 28 in Lenox, MA. I've started a premedical postbac program in Bryn Mawr, so I sadly won't be able to swing 300 miles this year, but I swear the 50 mile gravel route is pretty challenging.
Any and all contributions are so appreciated! I can't overstate how excited I am to participate in this ride again and to continue my relationship with Dana Farber as a One-to-One caregiver mentor.
All my love,
R

2023: This September, I’ll be riding roughly 300 miles, split between two Pan-Mass Challenge events, in support of the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. September 1-3, I’ll complete a ''reimagined'' PMC ride: 250 miles on road from Williamstown, MA to Provincetown, MA. Then, on September 23rd, I’ll bike my last 50 miles at the Pan-Mass Unpaved gravel event in Lenox, MA.
To those who donate and to those who share this link with others who might be interested in supporting my fervent pedaling— I can’t describe how much it means to me.
With all my love and gratitude,
Rosie
UPDATE: A note of gratitude and awe: Witnessing everyone's love for Ira and Rose manifest as support for me in this endeavor— I'm floored. And hearing people's individual reasons for donating has simultaneously broken and mended my heart. Every day, I feel so lucky to have inherited this community and learned how to maintain and expand it from my dads. Love you all.
UPDATE 2: This was one of The Amazing Experiences of my life. To ride alongside people who share this grief— this feeling of having so much love for our late loved ones and putting that love into this ride. Thank you x100000 to everyone who made it possible for me to participate in PMC Unpaved and my reimagined ride. We raised $6500 (half is now on my Unpaved portal). I'm at a loss for words.
