If you know me, you know that I hate trying new things.
Well, I tried cycling on a whim in the summer of 2023 and immediately fell in love. 20 mile rides turned quickly into 50 mile rides and a thirst for more.
I've never done any sort of 5k, half marathon or race-based event. Partly because I hate running, but MOSTLY because I just don't feel inspired enough to prepare for those types of things. This feels different.
It may be because I'm a PMC Board Member, it may be because the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber are core partners to the Red Sox and the Red Sox Foundation, or, it may be because I've discovered the perfect intersection of challenge, inspiration and impact.
Cancer finds and crushes everyone in some way. For me, my sister, father, aunts, grandmother, grandfather, colleagues and close friends all have either succumbed to, are diagnosed with, or have beaten cancer...for now. Sometimes it feels like it's just a matter of time before someone else I know gets diagnosed.
So I'm doing this to ultimately further the progress and impact of DFCI so that fewer people must travel through the challenging and scary journey of cancer.
I would be honored if you would support my goal of both finishing the 168 mile race, but also my $6,000 fundraising target. Please know that 100% of your donation will directly benefit the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
As someone that's given so much to others over the years - through the Celtics Shamrock Foundation and the Red Sox Foundation - I'm hopeful that you might consider supporting this very new, very daunting challenge and goal!
Please feel free to reach out out with any questions or to send a note or text of encouragement - lord knows I'll need it!!
THANK YOU!!!!
