Subject: Riding 162 Miles to Fight Cancer – Will You HELP Me?
Hi Friends,
I hope this note finds you well!
On August 2nd and 3rd, I’ll be riding in my 5th Pan-Mass Challenge – a two-day, 162-mile journey from Wellesley to Provincetown. I’ll join 6,000 fellow cyclists and 4,000 volunteers as we raise over $70 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the world’s leading cancer research and treatment centers.
These are two of the most inspiring days of the year for me – filled with hope, heart, and the relentless pursuit of a cure.
Why do I ride?
This ride is personal.
It started five years ago when I lost someone I looked up to – Tom Kenney, a Hyannis firefighter and member of the MA FEMA team who responded on 9/11. He served others for over 36 years and passed away from occupational cancer tied to his heroic work.
I also ride for my amazing aunt, a pancreatic cancer survivor who has been kicking cancer’s butt for more than six years.
And this year, I ride with even more purpose – for my sister Alison, who was diagnosed with breast cancer over two years ago and is fighting like hell every single day. Her strength, resilience, and courage fuel every mile I ride.
Once again, I’ll be riding with Team Brent to support neuroblastoma research, a devastating pediatric cancer that used to be nearly untreatable. Thanks to research and funding, survival rates are rising – and Brent is living proof.

If you’d like to support this cause, please consider making a donation to help me reach my goal. Every dollar matters. Every mile counts.
???? Want to make it personal?
Send me the names of anyone you'd like me to ride for – in honor or in memory. I’ll proudly carry them on my jersey. It’s those names that push me through when my legs want to quit.
With heartfelt thanks,
Rick Scherer
