It's July and we are in the final week of preparing for the Pan Mass Challenge -- my thirteenth ride at age 62. We will be riding for two days and 168 miles for many who cannot ride -- including our own Diane Legg, who lost her 20-year battle with lung cancer on Dec. 30, 2024.

It will be strange not to have Diane physically present with us this year -- but I know Diane will be with us all in spirit, motivating us as she always has. Her legacy lives on in her husband Dave, her beautiful family and her LUNGSTRONG teammates. The funds we have raised over the years have helped the doctors at Mass General Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute extend the lives of their cancer patients. Diane lived 20 years with Stage 4 lung cancer. She saw all 3 of her sons graduate from high school, and two of them graduate from college, because of the medical advances made with the money you have so generously given over the years.

On August 2 and 3, when we strap on our helmets and bike shoes, squeeze into our bike shorts and start riding from Wellesley to Provincetown, all the training hours, the sweat and the sore muscles will be worthwhile if we can find a way to beat the relentless beast that is cancer.
