“Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion” - Georg Wilhelm
Dear Family and Friends,
There are many ways to define passion. Dictionary definitions include great devotion for something, excitement combined with commitment, and boundless enthusiasm. We can be passionate about a belief, a sports team or a cause.
I used that quote and introduction 20 years ago when I first joined an incredible and passionate group of cyclists in support of a very important and critical cause. Cancer research and treatment.
This coming summer I will be continuing my passion when I clip in for my 20th consecutive bike ride for The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge. The PMC is the nation’s original fundraising bike-a-thon and today raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. 20 years ago, the PMC had contributed more than $145 million to lifesaving cancer research and treatment. That number just surpassed $1 billion! In that time, I have cycled over 3000 miles during those PMC weekends!
The PMC represents more than just distance traveled or paths completed; it symbolizes the unified difference we can create when we unite with intention and resolve. Each rotation of the pedals transforms into an emblem of optimism, strength, and the steadfast conviction that transformation is possible.
I feel very fortunate to be part of Team 3G and their commitment to the Lowe Center of Thoracic Oncology at the Dana-Farber and hope you share in my enthusiasm and energy. Our objective as a team is to bring about increased awareness of cancer detection, treatment, research, and education. We will always deliver the lion’s share of funds raised to The Lowe Center for Thoracic oncology at the DFCI, but our team’s objective has shifted as we have grown.
Team 3G now provide grants to other labs at the DFCI and Mass General Hospital (MGH) that impact team members who have loved ones suffering with cancer or who have lost loved ones to this insidious disease. In four years, Team 3G has already blanketed over one million dollars in grants to Lung, Lymphoma, Ovarian, Melanoma and Glioblastoma studies & clinical trials.
By signing up to participate I have committed to raising a minimum of $6,000 but know I can do much more than that. I ask you to join me on this ride by making a tax-deductible contribution - any amount will be greatly appreciated. More needs to be done in lung cancer research and Team 3G is leading the way. Every dollar raised will be distributed immediately to provide optimal therapies and treatments to patients in search of lifesaving, cutting-edge care.
For online giving, please use the Support My Ride option on the upper left hand side of this page. If your company offers donation matching, please consider asking how they can get involved.
If you can donate to my ride, know that 100% of every donation immediately goes directly to the Dana-Farber. Your gift WILL make an immediate difference. Being a part of this great effort is one of my proudest accomplishments.
Thank you for sharing my passion and this extraordinary journey with me over the years and thank you for your generosity and support!
