Dear Friends
As hard as it is to believe, this year marks our 20th year riding in the Pan Mass Challenge together! We have raised over $132,000.00!! I can’t thank you enough for your faithful partnership with me in what becomes a life changing event for so many children and their families. If this may be your first donation, welcome!
I want to share some of my thoughts about riding over the past 20 years. This challenging PMC Ride has truly become a part of me in that the ongoing training for this event has shaped me in many ways. Let’s start with something as simple as just the bike! I’ve used only two different bikes during the past 20 years. I have ridden and trained all over the country. I even took my bike to England and watched the start of the Tour de France, rode a section of the tour, then rode around London. The bike has brought me wonderful memories and introduced me to some of my closest friends . A bike is a Time Machine, making you feel like a kid again, going out for a ride. Sometimes I feel free, like I’m flying on my bicycle. I know it has contributed to my overall good health.
However, participating in the PMC is so much more than a personal bike experience. The bike now becomes a cancer fighting machine and it is an honor to be able to come alongside others in this cause. I participate with an incredible team of riders from my cycle group PHAT TUESDAY. We are assigned a new pedal partner every year. This Pedal Partner (PP) is a child who is currently undergoing cancer treatment at Dana Farber. We usually get together with them and their families several times during the year. We are there to help support them and each and every one has made an impact on us and inspired us. I recently ran into one of our past pedal partners. He recently graduated college and is doing well!
In the past 20 years think of someone you know that has had cancer or is a family member or friend of someone with cancer in one form or another. Quite often we want to desperately help them and don’t know what to do. This is one way to help, to love and to honor someone. THIS IS WHY WE RIDE.
My goal this 20th year is to raise the most yet for Dana Farber. I hope you can help me achieve this significant goal. You can either mail a check made out to the Pan Mass Challenge and send it to my address above or you can go online to http://pmc.org/egifts/RR0065 100% of your contribution goes directly to DFCI and is completely tax deductible. Bob Reed
