For the year of 2010 I
will be
participating in the Pan Mass Challenge. My father was diagnosed with
stage
four cancer in 2009 and the rest of our family looked on in shock. The
helpless
feelings sank in as we realized someone
that we love and
cherish was battling
what could possibly the fight of their lifetime. What could we do? Not
much,
provide assistance, and sit on the sidelines and hope. We’re all going
to die,
but is this really his time?
At the end
of 2009 after a long a grueling battle, including surgery, hospital and
home
recoveries, and many chemotherapy sessions the fight has concluded. Dad
has
been proclaimed cancer free. Wow, he did it. He looked at
deaths door and
managed to not open it. It seemed miraculous when we heard the news.
The technology
and research that went into saving Dad’s life comes from somewhere. I
believe
it’s my responsibility to say thanks and show my father that I believe
in him.
The Pan Mass Challenge is the largest event of its kind.
It has donated over
$270 million to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund.
To be
a part of the PMC I have to ride my bike 190 miles over 2 days and raise
money
to donate to the research efforts. The
amount of money I am required to raise
is $4200.00. I will train for over half of a year to make this
monumental trek
and need as much help as possible to raise the required donation amount.
A
donation from you would help my
efforts a great deal. Please make a
contribution on my behalf. Anything you can spare will be greatly
appreciated.
