Dear Friends,
This year marks my 3rd year participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge. First things first, I did NOT ride in the big weekend this year. I got married two weeks before the ride and was still enjoying our honeymoon running from a tsunami in Hawaii during the ride on August 5th and 6th. I heard they got extremely fortunate with weather - pleasant mid-70s conditions the whole weekend. Nearly 20 degrees cooler than last year! Both my father and younger brother rode from Sturbridge to P-town without any indicents. I trained with my father and brother throughout the year, including daunting weekly spin classes over the winter, so I knew they were in great shape. Despite not participating in the ride, I am still comitted to helping raise as much as I can to support the incredible cause we are all a part of.
The PMC is the largest fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund, a non-profit organization that supports cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I ride with the team “FLAMES” in support of the PMC and its drive to beat cancer. 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
I realize that times are challenging, but philanthropy is still the best way to continue supporting the research and discovery efforts in the Division of Leukemia. I ride the PMC to support my father's mission of finding new treatments and cures to cancer, specifically leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes and myeloproliferative neoplasms. These past few years have been difficult for all of us and the funds from the PMC remain the single most important support for leukemia clinical research. I ride for all cancer patients, past and present, as well as their families. I ride to make a difference, and you can too.
A year like this is CRITICALLY important for fundraising as we must combat the current administrations' war on academia. Cancer doesn't take a break so neither can we. Thank you for your consideration. Please send your donation by September 30th.
With Warm Regards,
Robbie
