Why I Ride ...

Our 14th Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) a 2-day Bike-a-thon raising critical funds for Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, is rapidly approaching! On August 2nd/3rd we will ride (Robin from Wellesley 165 miles) and (Ted from Sturbridge 192 miles) to Provincetown as members of the Pook’s Pedalers team. We are hoping for clear skies and mild temps but are ready to meet the challenge of whatever comes our way!

We ride in memory of our friend Jonathan (aka Pook) for whom our Pook's Pedaler's team was founded 19 years ago. We honor our moms, Norma and Harriet, Ted's brother David, as well as our Living Proof teammates. We remember cousin Bob and dear friend Michael, both taken by cancer far too soon.

We ride for the many children affected by cancer, including our Pedal Partner, 6 year-old Tilly, granddaughter of teammate Susan and niece of teammate Noah. Tilly is being treated at DFCI for a cervical spinal tumor and is doing GREAT! As we follow Tilly and her family on this journey we are so keenly reminded of why we ride. (A portion of the funds we raise will go directly to the Matilda Rose Danoff Fund for Low-Grade Glioma Research) And we are riding once again for 5 year-old Nora who is nearing completion (hooray!!) of her 3-year treatment protocol for leukemia. Tilly and Nora, you are the wind at our backs!

This year we especially will be holding Sallie, Steve, Sam, Jen, Rochelle and Jim in our hearts as they continue to fight their battles with cancer.

Thank you to all who have donated so generously. With funding of research labs severely impacted by government cuts, reaching the $76 million fundraising goal this year is more critical than ever. It is not too late to contribute and we’d LOVE to have your support.
