Summer 2017
I hope this finds all of you well and you are enjoying your summer.
I will be participating in this year’s Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) as a Virtual Rider. A Virtual Rider promotes the message of the PMC through fundraising although does not physically ride in the event. The PMC is the 2-day annual bicycling fundraiser for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund; an event that I have been actively involved with since 1987 as a rider, volunteer, and fundraiser. The PMC started in 1980 with a little over a dozen riders and has grown to a 6200+ rider event that last year alone raised $47 million. The ride takes place every year during the first weekend in August.
Over the years the PMC has become more personal as family and friends fight the battle with cancer. I will continue to support this worthwhile cause in honor and memory of my father who was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. He was always encouraging and supportive in the challenges I undertook and instilled in me the importance of believing in what you do.
To date the PMC has contributed over half a billion dollars for adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) through the Jimmy Fund and this year has a fundraising goal of $48 million. The 2017 PMC will be my 31st year of involvement of riding and fundraising. Since 1987, I have ridden in the event 25 years and have personally raised over $140,000. Since 2007 the PMC has contributed an amazing 100% of every rider-raised dollar directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund. The PMC is considered among the leanest of fundraising organizations in the nation today. To learn more about the Pan-Mass Challenge and where the money goes, please visit http://www.pmc.org/.
For those who have supported me in past, a heartfelt “Thank You”. I am grateful for your support and even though I am not riding this year, would appreciate your tax-deductible donations again for this year’s event. Donations can be made on-line by credit card directly through the PMC web site by entering or clicking on the link below. If you prefer to write a check, please make it out to the “PMC”, “The Jimmy Fund” or “Dana-Farber Cancer Institute” and mail it to me at the address below. I will forward it for processing and deposit. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you run into any problems. If your employer has a matching gift program, please ask your Human Resources department for the form, and follow the process for charitable matches.
Every donation brings us closer by the mile.
Thank you again for your continued support,
Bob Deutsch
