Why I Ride ...
I'm a proud supporter of and rider for the PMC because it is provides the research funds needed to beat cancer. I find it incredibly impressive that 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. 2014 marked my 20th year of rider participation. I continue to fundraise and support the PMC's mission as a virtual rider. And as such, I virtual ride in memory of a number of dear friends, former colleagues, and family members who have lost their battles with cancer and in honor of many dear friends, colleagues, and family members who are winning their battles against cancer. PMC weekend, the first weekend in August, is special. PMC weekend inspires me. This is the weekend when: - A woman silently holding a sign, You saved my life, is more deafening than the cheers of a hundred fans. - The slap of a spectator's hand is felt most deeply in your heart. - Peanut butter on anything is considered an appetizer. While a cup of clam chowder, 2 hot dogs, a hamburger, two slices of pizza, an ear of corn, a cup of chili, a baked potato with sour cream, two Klondike bars, and a glass of beer, is considered lunch. - The wind is always at your back even when it is blowing directly in your face.- The hills are always down and your spirits are always up. - We find the funds so they can find the cures.- We say next year to Matt Damon, We've raised over $600 million dollars! What do you think of those apples? - Riders are heroes and volunteers are saints. - Two small days make one big difference. I strive with my sponsors to make life the past tense of cancer. Thank you. Warmly, Richard
