On August 3rd, I will be taking part in the 186 mile journey from Sturbridge to Provincetown in support of the commitment of so many in finding a cure for Cancer. I will be joined by my best friend and best man at our wedding, Mike. Mike and I met in 2001 while serving in the Coast Guard and there is nobody else that I would rather share the finish line with.
In 2004, Mike's mother lost her battle with this terrible disease but, passed her strength and determination on to him. In turn, Mike passed it on to me. She inspired so many great qualities in Mike and for that, I am thankful. Mike's perseverance, loyalty, integrity and joy of life is contagious. I ride for her.
In 2023, close friends from high school received the devastating news that their oldest son, Cameron, was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia just before his 7th birthday. Cam has spent many months in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy and ultimately a bone marrow transplant. Cam would eventually be stable enough to leave the hospital for special occasions. He was allowed to celebrate holidays with his family and the birthdays of his younger brother and sister. After the celebrations were over, Cam would have to return to the hospital for monitoring. They became hopeful that the treatment was working and he was finally cancer free - until they got the heartbreaking news that the cancer had returned in December. Having a son the same age as Cam, this really hit home. We could not imagine what Cam and his family were going through. But Cam is a superhero. His strength to battle this disease is inspirable and he has, and continues to, inspire me. I ride for him.
I ride for every family fighting this battle, have fought and won the battle and for those who have lost the battle. For every nurse, every doctor, and every volunteer that dedicate their lives to finding a cure and supporting those affected. Please help me to reach my funding raising goal, and together, we can continue to help those who fight.
