Why I Ride ...
After riding the PMC for several years, with my last ride being 20 years ago in 2004, I have decided to come back to this great event and ride one more time this year in honor of my very dear friend, Hugh Scott Hamill. Sadly, Scott passed last year from an aggressive cancer that he had battled for the last several years.
Scott and I grew up together in Marshfield and reconnected later in our adult lives when we both moved back to our hometown to raise our families. We spent a good amount of time together over the past 20 years, much of it riding together, be it on our local roads, a Plymouth-PTown ride, or several B2B/B2VT rides. Scott was a passionate and incredibly strong rider who challenged everyone who rode with him to do the same. As he was going through his treatments, riding was the one thing that he committed himself to do to help him through all of his ups and downs. Seeing him on the road with his trademark orange helmet was always a comforting sight for myself and everyone else who rode with him.
While I will never be as strong and consistent of a rider that Scott was, I am honored to be riding in his memory this year and I am asking you to help me honor Scott as well by making a donation to my ride. The PMC has done a great job of raising fiunds towards cancer research and is leading the charge to ultimately find a cure and beat cancer. As has always been the case, 100% of rider-raised revenue will go directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
Thank you for your consideration of supporting my ride this year!
