In just a few weeks, I’ll ride my 21st Pan-Mass Challenge to raise funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). This year the PMC aims to raise $76 million. 100% of your donations are utilized by DFCI, so you can feel confident that your support will make an impact.

The fight to cure cancer is making significant progress. In my world of breast oncology, we have new classes of drugs entering trials, and several drugs which are now approved by the FDA and available to patients. It’s a great pleasure as an oncologist to see these discoveries translating into better outcomes for patients. DFCI is a main driver of this progress – our work has made significant contributions to the development of over 50% of oncology drugs approved in recent years.

DFCI needs the funding from the PMC more than ever. With cuts to scientific funding from the NIH, DFCI’s mission of decreasing the burden of cancer everywhere is threatened. We’re also at another pivotal moment in the history of DFCI, as we are building our own free standing cancer hospital, the only such hospital in New England.

On a personal level, this will be a special year for me as I ride with my sister, Jennifer, for her first PMC. She was in grade school when our mother was diagnosed with breast cancer initially and we’re excited to ride together in her honor.
