In 1980, the the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) had 36 riders and made a $10,200 gift to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Now in its 46th year, I'm incredibly proud to be participating in my second PMC, as I join the many fundraising riders continue to surpass over $1 billion raised for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber since its inception. Last year the PMC raised $75 million alone..quite remarkable, but only made possible by donors like you.
This year, I will be riding my second PMC, starting on Saturday, August 2nd, riding 109 miles from Sturbridge, MA to Bourne, MA, followed by a further 77 miles from Bourne, MA to Provincetown, MA on Sunday, August 3rd.
Many of you will know personally of family, friends and colleagues who have battled this disease over the years. I dedicate this fundraising ride to all those that have sadly lost their battle, those who are living proof of survival, and those still battling. I would make a special mention of Elaine, a family friend, who sadly passed away on April 19th this year, after her brave battle fighting stage 3 Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of the maxillary sinus, and pancreatic cancer, with treatment and care being facilitated at Dana-Farber. I ride this year in memory of dear Elaine.
Please help me reach my personal fundraising goal of $6,000, 100% of which goes directly to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
'When they write the history of how cancer was conquered, the Pan-Mass Challenge will be in chapter one....'
'So yes, we ride to raise money. But just as importantly, we ride to protect progress. We ride to defend hope. And we ride to ensure that nothing, and no one, stands in the way of our funding the cures for cancer..'
Thank you for your support this year..Peter
