On April 9th 2004, my wife's sister was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Forty days later, on May 19th she died. She was the 40 year old mother of three children ages 10, 8 and 4. My wife's family established the Team Jobie Leukemia Research Fund at Dana Farber to fund research to cure Leukemia. This year I will be contributing the proceeds of my fundraising to this research fund.
I started riding in the Pan Mass Challenge in 1989. I have only missed two PMCs since that year. I rode my first PMC because I like to ride my bike and it sounded like fun, a challenge and a good cause. Since my first ride, Cancer has struck too many friends, family members, business associates and acquaintances. I believe we are making a difference. Hopefully, before I am unable to ride, Cancer will be essentially cured or manageable and we can ride for fun instead of to raise money to fight a deadly and devastating disease.
