For the 12th year in a row, I'll be spending the first weekend in August riding my bike 180 miles over 2 days to raise money for cancer research. I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading the charge to beat cancer and 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
The progress made every year as a result of the PMC inspires me to keep going. Cancer is relentless but so are all those involved in fighting it - whether developing new treatments, searching for cures, or just raising money to support this groundbreaking research.
Research dollars matter. This summer marks 23 years since I completed cancer treatment and I am forever grateful for the scientists who developed my successful treatment and the research dollars that supported them. This year also marks 37 years since Becky Robertson, my beloved college and NYC roommate, lost her battle against lymphoma. Becky was spectacular - smart, athletic, funny - she had a wild and wonderful life ahead of her. I was so lucky to have known her and I'm still outraged that she only had 33 years on this earth..
I am riding for Becky and for Mike Shuttenberg, Doug Stern, and James Senicola whose lives were cut way too short by cancer. The world was a better place with them in it and they remain cherished and loved. And I'm riding for the people you cherish and love who were taken by cancer.
I am riding to support those who are in the heat of battle against cancer and those who are supporting them in this fight; I hope you feel my hand on your back.
I am riding to celebrate those who are living proof of the impact of research dollars that support cancer research.
My goal is to raise $6000. Please consider donating to this important cause - every dollar matters and every cent you donate will go towards moving us closer to a cure. Let's kick some cancer butt!!
